Hans' main computer, the 14" Dell Latitude D620 is 11 years old but is still working well. It has been upgraded and has a 500 GB SSD disk since year 2013. The problem is that is runs Windows XP as installed when purchased 2006 and Microsoft does not support that operating system since April 2014. Some software does not run with that OS, for example Google Chrome. Therefore, a new main computer is required.
Hans check both Dell and Lenovo computers and selects the Lenovo T470s because it offers a fast 1 TB SSD disk and Thunderbolt in a slim 14" package. Hans wants to have 2 hard disks in the laptop just as the old Dell has and HP has a model that seems to fit. The media computer is used only for photo and film handling. Invoice, computer

Hans needs a small computer with decent battery life for installation of an ARDF competition program. The program licence is connected to the computer and since this computer is inexpensive (SEK 2995) and small, it can be sent to other organizers for use in the Swedish ARDF competitions.
A 2 GB RAM memory module is purchased (SEK 320) to upgrade the existing 1 GB.
After a month Hans connects the PC to a small wireless all-in-one-printer; HP C4599. There are some problems to install the connection but these are solved within 30 minutes:
To enable efficient scanning of a large number of negatives and positives, a separate computer with Vista is needed. To be able to inspect images the display must be large. This one has a 17" with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels.
The computer is equipped with two internal hard disks, each 250 GB. The color is red.
To simplify data transfer between computers a Western Digital My Passport™ Essential™ 250 GB hard disk is bought. The unit has USB interface and a nice red color.
To make long time storage of both images and data a 2,5" LaCie Rikiki GO 1 TB hard disk is bought (650 SEK). The disk is stored in a bank safey box.
The 2 hard disks, each 250 GB are rather full and an upgrade is required. So, 500 GB becames 1 TB split on two disks; SEAGATE MOMENTUS 7200.4 2.5" 500GB 7200RPM SATA/300 G-FORCE. The two old disks are cloned with Acronics True Image Home 2011, using an Ace Azure external cabinet for 2.5" SATA disks, connected via USB 2.0.
The D: hard disk of 500 GB that is used for films, and is suddenly full and an upgrade is required. This is most due to the GoPro Hero camera that generates a lot of Gigabytes. The old disk is cloned with Acronics True Image Home 2011, using an Ace Azure external cabinet for 2.5" SATA disks, connected via USB 2.0. SEK 749 hos Kjell.
After having used the Inspiron 8100 from 2001 it was now time to upgrade to a faster computer with USB 2.0. Hans travelled a lot at this time so the computer should be easy to put in a back pack. Therefore, the 14" screen was perfect, still offering 1440 x 900 pixels.
To simplify storage of photos the internal 2.5" HD was replaced by a 200 GB Seagate disk.
An additional 1 GB of SO-DIMM 667 MHz DDR2 memory was only 350 SEK at this time, compared to 1500 SEK when the computer was bought.
The existing hard disk, from 2007 was full so a new disk was needed. SEAGATE MOMENTUS 7200.4 2.5" 500GB 7200RPM SATA/300 G-FORCE. The old disk was cloned with Acronics True Image Home 2011, using an Ace Azure external cabinet for 2.5" SATA disks, connected via USB 2.0. The cloning took just a couple of hours. SEK 625.
The existing hard disk, from 2011 is still functioning and only 50% full, but Hans wants to improve the speed of the computer. He choses a 500 GB Samsung 840 SSD SATA/600 TLC. The old disk is cloned with Acronics True Image Home 2011, using a Deltaco external cabinet for 2.5" SATA disks, connected via USB 2.0. The cloning takes just a couple of hours. SEK 2649 at Dustin.
2014-12-29: Hans checks the status of the disk using CrystalDiskInfo 5.5.1. The disk has written 3.6 TB so far and the Wear Leveling Count is 98 meaning it has used 2% of its expected life time.
2015-08-16: Hans checks the status again. The disk has written 4.5 TB so far and the Wear Leveling Count is 97 meaning it has used 3% of its expected life time.
