July 2017

Hans' main computer, the 14" Dell Latitude D620 is 11 years old but is still working well. It has been upgraded and has a 500 GB SSD disk since year 2013. The problem is that is runs Windows XP as installed when purchased 2006 and Microsoft does not support that operating system since April 2014. Some software does not run with that OS, for example Google Chrome. Therefore, a new main computer is required.

Hans check both Dell and Lenovo computers and selects the Lenovo T470s because it offers a fast 1 TB SSD disk and Thunderbolt in a slim 14" package. Hans wants to have 2 hard disks in the laptop just as the old Dell has and HP has a model that seems to fit. The media computer is used only for photo and film handling. Invoice, computer

February 2015

The last time Hans played with microcontrollers was in 2010 when he built a simulator based om Microship's PIC processors. Now it is time to learn something else. The new Raspberry computer is released in February offering 6 times capacity compared to the previous design.

The plan is to use the computer board for a Linux project involving a LAMP web server. Hans buys the computer board from Kjell & Company in Västerås for 399 SEK.

July 2009

Hans needs a small computer with decent battery life for installation of an ARDF competition program. The program licence is connected to the computer and since this computer is inexpensive (SEK 2995) and small, it can be sent to other organizers for use in the Swedish ARDF competitions.

A 2 GB RAM memory module is purchased (SEK 320) to upgrade the existing 1 GB.

After a month Hans connects the PC to a small wireless all-in-one-printer; HP C4599. There are some problems to install the connection but these are solved within 30 minutes:

Good

  • Very small with almost a full size keyboard
  • Mechanically robust.

Bad

  • Display height only 576 pixels, some programs refused to run.
  • Only 2 USB ports.

Manual and disk

Since the computer does not have a serial interface port, and some old SI-readers have this, Hans gets an inteface cable with software from Clas Ohlson.
