The torpedo boat

Morse with a lamp
Hans makes his military service in the Swedish Navy.

He starts in Karlskrona in September 1976 and learns the Morse language. Then he is stationed on a torpedo boat in the winter and is released August 1977 as a "furir".

Signalmatros
Hans position was "signalmatros" with ship-ID no. 1 (skeppsnummer 1). As such he was responsible for optical signals consisting of:
– morse lamp
– signal flags
– symbols in the rig
– fog-horn
– signal rockets.

Some common tasks with the morse lamp was to exchange name signals with other navy ships and to show:
– turn starboard (•)
– turn port (••)
– go astern (•••).

Spica – T121
The torpedo boat had a crew of xx men.

The main weapon was six 52 mm wire-controlled torpedos. As an alternative the torpedo tubes could be removed and the ship be furnished with mines on mine rails. An automatic 40 mm anti-aircraft gun could also be used on surface targets.
